Top 5 Reasons Why Guyana is the best choice to move abroad in 2025

Having lived in the Caribbean for 8 years (since the last time the US president was a Republican) I have come to get a feel of what each country offers, at least the larger economies in the Eastern Caribbean. Guyana has been on my watch list as I’ve seen it discover and develop its energy and precious metals sectors over the past 10 years. Now at a fever pitch, I propose to you the top reasons to make Guyana your next home.

1 – Oil, Gas & Gold – a lot.

Guyana is now poised as the 4th largest oil reserves in the world, earning the moniker of the South American Dubai. This means super growth and a chance to turn these dollars into diversified sense.

  • Domestically this translates into an oil-into-energy deal that will cut Guyana’s electric production costs in half as the current grid system is not capable of sustaining the loads required for future growth.
  • Countries are lining up for the black gold rush. India, the largest consumer of oil and gas products in the world, has close relations to Guyana’s administration with a recent visit from Prime Minister Modi and large loans extended from India in the form of military equipment. Most assuredly this will translate into shipments of oil and gas to the region.
  • Gold has been mined in the region since the 1800’s and you would think with the amount taken thus far, that there would be no more to find. However, Guyana has so many areas of untouched land that more discoveries are not just inevitable, they happen frequently at large scale.

Keep an eye on the news as it seems Guyana is finding oil and gold everyday.

2 – Live in a Futuristic City (soon)

Guyana started construction planning on Silica City – South America’s Silicon Valley – in 2021. Since then, construction has been well on its way to meeting the 2030 completion date for the project. Any techie on this side of the world has to wonder and dream about what starting from scratch could mean in such a city. Silica City will be its own self-sustaining smart city, equipped with all the trappings of a new tech-based metropolis including housing, shopping, health facilities, transportation hubs and beautiful water ways. I hear there are houses already complete – let’s get moving!

We will have this Silica City realised by 2030. Nothing will stop us. A city with sustainable resilience. A city that is naturally beautiful and modern and innovative. A city that is advanced in its time. A city that will be built for 100 years. A city that will bring tremendous interest and position Guyana as one of the most sustainable stories in urban development.”

3 – Have a Carbon Negative Footprint

Guyana has a long standing record on maintaining its priority for conservation and preservation of natural ecology and ecosystems. Incredibly, it is with this focus that Guyana is able to reach a projected 1.5 million barrel daily oil production schedule and still remain carbon neutral. I am not an environmentalist and I am aware of the evidence to the contrary so I will mention, this is a bit of muddy waters however their substantial untouched rain forest is most responsible for the numbers published by the government.

4 – English Spoken Here

As the only English speaking country on the South American continent (though still considered the Caribbean), we’re stoked that the majority of the country speaks English, with some indigenous people speaking multiple languages. Although there is a distinct local English accent, Americans might initially struggle to decode some of the vernacular. Our Founder always reminds us its about cadence and rhythm, with a few new words or phrases thrown in. In Guyana, it truly helps a bunch in speeding up your comfort level when communicating with such kind and helpful people.

5 – Open for Business

Guyana makes it easy to invest in business ownership and to so with minimal capital requirements. Guyana has resources and laws that allow for investment support, property ownership rights and immigration pathways leading to citizenship. With little standing in your way and fairly expedient processes (most of which are digital) creating a new life in Guyana is straight forward with minimal red tape and fees.
